Hey Scott,

The P.O. had a 14" diameter 2 blade wheel on the boat when it had an ICE. I've run a couple of prop selection programs using different reduction ratios & they spit out anything between 10" to 15". I've been talking with a couple of local vendors, they know what I'm trying to do so guess I'll see what they recommend, & go from there regarding pitch. I am leaning towards somthing in the 12-14 range because I want something with bite for low RPM's.

The 3000 rpms you recommend for the motor, it's off the curve for a 48 volt drive accrording to my paperwork. They only way I see achieving that RPM would be to run a small diameter wheel so there isn't much torque put on the motor. Although running at a higher RPM equals better motor efficiency, I think you also loose in higher amps being drawn from the battery bank feeding the beast. That's my take on it, could be wrong.

Looking forward to this. I need another science experiment to give me something to do :)

like the 3.5 knots for your boat, that motor and a 48v
system. Here's what I know based on the information you
gave me so far.
1.)
That motor needs to make 3kw cont. for it to propel your
boat 3.5 knots.2.) In order for that motor to
make 3kw's at 48v, it needs to spin 3,000
RPM.
What was the
diameter of the prop you were planning to use?

Although the boat has a hull speed of 6.4 knots based upon
some preliminary calcs I've run using prop equation,
10" pitch allowing for 50% slippage.

At 1200 prop shaft rpm- 5.6 knots

At 800 prop shaft rpm-3.7 knots....
