I thought about running 36 or even 24 volts, but the problem is motor cooling, at least for the motenergy BLDC motors.They don't like to run continuously at very low rpm with a load. The fan works much better at higher RPMs when the motor is doing some real work. I also considered adapting an outboard prop. They typically spin at around 3000rpm, I think, with no problem. But a belt reduction setup is a tried and true system and so far that is the way I am going.
