Hello Luke,
Glad to see another Tartan 27 going electric! You will love it! I've had mine for two seasons now, and it has been working really well.I have 3:1 reduction on mine with a Motenergy motor and Sevcon controller. The prop is 13x10 three blade. I did some crude testing last fall before I pulled it out. It seemed to top out at 4.9 knots @ 90 amps. It likes to cruise 4.0-4.2 kts. I will pull the prop off soon to have the pitch checked. Looking at my old Skenes Elements of Yacht Design (Francis Kinney, version), it looks like a 6" or 7" may work better. Also, an auxiliary sailboat with the prop in an aperture like we have, the slip is shown to be 40-55%. In the time we have had it, we never needed more speed than that (channel speed limit is 5 MPH), but I will optimize it just because I can! I'll get back to you on the shaft RPM, but it was higher than 1000 rpm.
