Re: [Electric Boats] Re: Introducing the 'Arc'himedes

g'day ladies and gentlemen
Reminds me of  an incident on the ICW we were caught up  in at Carolina Inlet 10 miles north of Southport, about 2 years ago.
Southbound in a deep draft yacht, we were stuck in the putty just before we reached the inlet at low tide. A big tow came past and itself got his forward barge stuck on the sandbanks which form on either side or the inlet mouth. The incoming tide was playing havoc with his attempts to get off and swung him round 180 degrees. He eventually was able to complete a 360 degree turn with the help of something akin to a 3 point turn. We had to motor as slow as possible to try to stay in mid channel after coming unstuck. We had to continually try to stay clear of the huge 2 foot deep whirlpools which the +- 1000 HP tug was throwing downstream towards us as his stern wandered from side to side across the channel. One can not dodge all of them forever and eventually one caught the yacht and spun us around like a top, completely out of control even though we were about half a mile astern of the tugboat.
Such are the unplanned situations which require a good deal of power to maneouvre when navigating that narrow shallow long strip of water called the ICW.

the sections you have to run where you may encounter adverse currents are Georgia and Carolinas but not for long stretches.
the hudson river and the mohawk river section of the Erie barge canal are capable of more than 6 knots when in a rainy spell.
big danger in getting swept over the dam when trying to get to the locks.  there is around a couple hundred miles in each section that could give you trouble.
Not to say you will encounter  this but easily possible.  Left north carolina in october one year and chopped ice off the deck every night and finally got to Miami
where it snowed. Conventional wisdom said I should have had 60's and 70's all the way at that time of year. Plan for the extreams not the averages.
I have had a lot of dry stacks if you want help let me know by PM.
