Check out http://www.zena.net/  They sell high amp alternators for welding machines and  speed controls/regulators to hook up to whatever engine you pick.

theres quite a few windmill type generators about that kind of voltage-current output..
might be a place to look

How about a 10 hp diesel air cooled engine and a DC generator/altinator.

anyone have any good ideas for how to assemble a good 48v diesel powered battery charger?  amplepower sells them for the proverbial arm and leg...  would like to get about 40amps minimum out of it so about 2000w after all efficiency loses....  looking for ideas in relation to a serial hybrid diesel to battery to motor system
