Re: [Electric Boats] battery advancement?

I looked at A123 website, didn't see any mention regarding marine applications, but yes, as an American, I would like to see US Products supported

You want to support U.S. products and avoid Chinese?

Then don't forget to include A123 lithium rechargeable batteries in any such comparisons.  I mentioned them earlier, yet don't see them in your response below…  A123 makes some of the highest performing lithium rechargeable batteries available anywhere and while they have been made in China in the past, they have been moving towards full production in U.S.  They are a U.S. traded company and are currently building a large manufacturing plant in Michigan for building EV-scale batteries .  If you want to 'go American', you need look no further if you have pockets that are deep enough----jump start your EV conversion by purchasing DeWalt power packs on Ebay---the large size packs use A123 batteries and include built-in BMS for the cells.  Gary Graunke here in Portland converted a Honda Insight Hybrid to all-electric, bought dozens of these DeWalt packs on Ebay and ganged them together to power his car effectively and happily for the past couple years now.

Having said that, as one who owns a few shares of AONE stock, it sure would be nice to see that investment turn positive for a change…not holding my breath.

It was identified that Battery Technology is a key factor in the advancement of E-Prop , so far Ive seen favorable comments regarding (2) Lithium type vendors, Thunder Sky , CALB, both companies are Chinese.

The other technology was Corvus-Energy, which is Dow/Kokam technology, looks like a multi-national effort, Canadian,American,French. and this appears to be expensive overkill if Im reading correctly, I don't have a comment on the product value and I don't know the investment cost.

It does appear that the potential for investment in Chinese Battery Technology is greater than I imagined.

I agree entirely. However, I am not aware of any domestic mfr of lithium cells that offer anywhere near the value of the CALB product. If I needed the extremely high discharge rates afforded by the A123 and Kokam cells, then I would be willing to pay the much greater cost of these. But I don't. These seem to be used mainly by racers.

As for right now, I don't see any "Made in USA" alternative for large format lithium cells. Anybody know one?
