RE: [Electric Boats] Re: Battery Balancing (again)

Tom,
The Manzanita Micro products are great Chargers, but come with a price. A BIG price tag. :o) I have a Brusa Charger that rivals the MM in features as well as the price tag, I believe you need one Mk3 for each battery at a cost of $75 each x 12 = ouch. The HDM's run at a cost of about $40 per battery.

Thanks!

Manzanita Micro offers digital regulators for FLA/AGM and lithium chemistries. The regulators constantly monitor cell or battery temperature and voltage, keeping a record of high and low voltages.

The regulators can shunt 2.5A per channel. That's more than the full output of my 1.5KW charger. My 16 cells are balanced to within 20mV of each other, most cells are within 5mV. Charger cut-off, cooling fans, controller current cutback, shunt enable voltage, and much more is programmable.

I use a notebook PC to display the cell's voltage and temperature while charging and running. Combined with the Link-Pro, I have all the info I need. I highly recommend this combination if you need to really know what's happening under the hood.
