I was out sailing today and up around the 5.4 knot range, the motor started spinning through the prop, which got me thinking about regen all over again. So, I put a meter on the Mars 709 and got about 11 volts across the leads. That's open circuit, I assume, as the system was turned off. So, do I need to be making above 48v out of the motor for regen or does a regen controller optimize the given output and convert it into +48v for the battery pack? I'm curious about the results other are having with the same experiment. On a more ambitious point of sail and with above 15 knots of wind, we can top 7.5 knots hull speed with ease, but not today.
Any feedback is always appreciated.
