RE: [Electric Boats] Introductions.

Joe:

Thanks for the reply.

There is a lot to like in your Electric Paddle package.  (http://www.electricpaddle.com)

There is very little to quibble about. Really it sounds a very well thought-out design.

And with the prices, this would seem a can’t-be-beat system.

Would the following be a fair representation of a simplified specifications sheet?

Standard package includes:

Motor assembly: waterproof motor and shaft housing, water-cooled gear-case, unique prop cartridge, transom bracket (6.2 lb.)

Battery: NiMh 24 volt 10AH (waterproof, comes with flotation bag) (7.5 lb.)

Battery charger (2 lb)

Other features:

For use in fresh or salt water (rinse after salt water use)

Magnetic on/off safety key.

Propeller: similar to APC 8 X 13 model airplane prop, strengthened to suit task.

Power draw: 0 to 100 watts.

Shaft length: short shaft for 11 to 17 inch transom mount; long shaft for 17 to 22 inch transom; (custom extra short shaft available).

Bracket: motor tilts up on the adjustable bracket and will slide forward from the raised position for access to prop.

For both safety and simplicity the motor only runs in one direction (no reverse). Because there is no need for a locking mechanism on the vertical shaft, the motor will easily tilt if it hits an obstruction.

Unique design of the lower unit: The cost of a propeller cartridge replacement is set about the same cost of a high efficiency replacement propeller on comparable motors ($45).

The battery will provide full power for more than 100 minutes. It will provide half power for over 3.3 hours.

Expected speeds:

Estimated speeds and ranges         100% power (1.75hr range)   50% power (3.3hr range)

kayak or canoe                                    2.9 - 4.1 mph                          2.2 - 3.1 mph

Yacht tender  or sailing dingly             2.3 - 3.5 mph                          1.8 - 2.7 mph

8ft inflatable                                       1.7 - 2.9 mph                          1.3 - 2.2 mph
