Ok enough already. The sailors of the past bow to your experience and knowledge. I, however, wish your read the subject line and my questions and kept to the topic at hand. I'm not really sure why all these various rants began as a result of my initial inquiry. If you want, go start your own string or better yet start your own group. Frankly, most of the comments are not even relevant to electric boating.
By the way, thank you to the 2 individuals that actually provided some useful information. Maybe if we used these forums to actually share knowledge, electric boating research and development would improve thus making electric drives more widely accepted.

I had been talking to ELCO about using one of their systems but became frustrated by them. I searched the net and found Electric Yacht (www.electricyacht.com). Scott has been very helpful and has recommended a 24 volt system with the electric motor in line with the shaft.

As stated on their web site "The motor unit contains a brushless DC, permanent magnet, variable speed motor and controller in a watertight housing. " That seems like a good idea but don't really know. Any thoughts or comments on this arrangement?
