[Electric Boats] Re: Houseboat

What type, style or voltage would you recommend then? If I used trojan t105 6v bats (or something similar) how long would these motors run. Again, I do not plan on going far or running the motors long, I just want to get out to raft up by the beach, maybe 10 miles tops each way. I also have a 6.5kw genset and would likely install some solar and/or wind gen to supplement. I know this will be slow but I want it to be safe and reliable. I am trying to do this for $3-5k if possible. I am also considering a 15hp outboard kicker as a backup.

You might want to consider selling the v-drives to help pay for the conversion and remove some weight to make room for more batteries. You will need to add some sort of shaft bearing, then connect the motors to the shaft, or install a cogged belt/pulley for speed reduction.

With the original power this boat would do a very frightening 30+kts I just want something that will move this boat at 3-5kts. What sort of electric motors would I need to accomplish this? Could the motors be hooked to the v-drives or directly to the prop-shaft? Is this even a do-able project? I don't want to spend a fortune for this either. I have seen golf cart motors up to 24hp. Would something like that work in this case?
