Re wayfarer battery question. When cruising, you should plan for the worst and with an open, unballasted boat that means a capsize or swamping. I'd definately choose an completely sealed battery chemistry to protect youself and your stuff. And upgrade the floation to handle the lead. The minnkota electronic module and POT are not sealed so take a screwdriver, wire clippers and wirenuts.
