Wow Joe,
Thanks for sharing our conversion story. I bought Douglas Little's "Electric Boats" book on Amazon, but this will really help in my conversion. I have an old Evinrude outboard that came with my sailboat. Trying to start that thing made me sweat all last year. I was going to try and rebuild it over the winter, but my efforts were futile. the parts I needed were too small to be sold for a profit and the tools needed to overhaul cost more than the outboard is worth. I'm very excited about scrapping that very complicated power head and installing an electric motor on the lower head and increasing my knowledge of the workings of electric propulsion in the process. I hate that gas prices are going up, but at least it will increase industries drive to get away from fossil fuels and get more and more EV's out on the road.

Jason, We used Monsterscooter motors for our conversion- wrote up a pretty comprehensive DYI article on it: http://electricpaddle.com/downloads/swe_pea_conversion.pdf . incidentally, we also discuss the Watts Up meter in that article.
