[Electric Boats] Re: Cruising with EP

Bill,
I think it would be a good idea to go back to basics and get a sense of how much thrust you need for a boat like you described. I have a feeling that with only 3HP you'd be lucky to be able to maneuver much less make any headway in other than dead calm conditions, and even then a knot or two is probably optimistic. I understand the desire to tinker and make something out of "found objects", but this just isn't a good fit. 3HP will push a 20-something foot sailboat hull at 5kt, but there's a huge difference between that and your "typical" 40x14 ft houseboat. Also, I'm not sure I understand the point of the extra generator, unless you're shooting for some kind of perpetual motion mechanism. If so, you're way out of my league...
On the differential question, try Wikipedia.
Cheers,
Jim McMillan

PS. A suggestion to all posters, please trim your replies, no sense in re-posting everything over and over.
