Hi all,
Some time ago I submitted to you my conversion project, but unfortunately suffered some undesired and unforeseen delays. Now it is time to resume and go ahead.
My sailboat is a wooden 30' Phillip Rhodes with about 4,300 Kgs displacement. Currently auxiliary power is provided with a 15 HP outboard with which she will do a little over 5 knots on calm seas and moderate winds. I use this auxiliary only to return when wind drops and very seldom on short 4 - 8 hour voyages.
After a lot of reading on this site and other references, I have decided to go with a SEVCON Brushless Sailboat Kit - 8.5KW, which mainly consists of a Mars Brushless motor and a Sevcon PMAC 250 amp programmable, regen controller, fed by 4 x 12v batteries. Before starting the import paperwork, I would greatly appreciate your opinions on this scheme.
Since currently my sailboat has no inboard shaft or propeller, and it will be difficult for me to purchase the latter locally, I would also like to hear on this subject. My guess is a 14" two blade, but I must admit I am highly ignorant en the subject. Links or references to internet sellers are also needed.
Thanks a lot and hope to see some of you sailing around Callao, Peru sometime.
