Re: [Electric Boats] Top problems with electric boat systems (need your input)

Doug:

I have not really had any problems with my ASMO Marine Thoosa 9000 system in the three years since I installed it. The only real issue I had was the battery monitor LCD display which was ruined by being out in the sun (display has since been replaced). But, even that did not affect the propulsion system operation. If I were to have a wish list it would be to have a 48 volt charger/power supply that matched my Honda 2000i  generator's availible power output without tripping it. I'd also like a remote electric start for the Honda 2000 too. But, I am really happy my propulsion system as is.

I really need your advice as I am studying the major market and technology problems with the whole electric boat industry......

What do you consider to be the biggest problems with electric boats...either pre-built or retrofitted

1)  Is it the motors themselves?  what's wrong with Mars motors or other brands?

2)  Is it the controlling circuitry that is most problematic?  If so, what's the big issue?

3)  Is it the charging circuitry?  What could be done to better the charging methods?

4)  Is it the batteries that is most problematic?

Sincerely,
Doug Hitchcock
