you are lucky. Mars motors with traditional brush systems can be
operated freely in both directions.
Instead these "pancake" type motors are tricky: You may adjust the
advance for both directions, but the unsymmetrical brushes may wear out
rapidly in reverse if large voltages and powers are needed.

What is CW of pancakes: It is unfortunately exactly "the wrong
direction", if you take a noutboard motor rig and replace the gas engine!
