Re: [Electric Boats] SPEED

I'm still not immune to the speed requirement, for me 3kts is about the minimum unless I've truly got nowhere to go. Heading out of the marina with a big boat or headed to a dinghy dock from a mooring, I'm only willing to slow down to a point.

Since my other boat, an F-27 Trimaran, will easily hit 6kts under sail in 5 kts of wind, three knots still feels awfully slow. She motors with less than full throttle at 7kts with a 9.8hp outboard. And with my ketch, it's more than 1nm from my slip to open water, so I'd like to get there and back with time for a decent afternoon sail. Sailing "inside" isn't as entertaining for me after 15 years, too many other people that aren't paying attention or don't know the basic boating rules.

I do have to admit that a slow marina cruise with cocktails at sunset is another great plan, and for this, the electric will be perfect.

It's all about finding the balance...

Fair winds,

I find since I installed Electric Propulsion I now often raise sail in the harbor and sail out or cruise at a leisurely 1 or 2 knots chatting with people on the docks on occasion as I do so. It's all part of the EP experience. IMO.
