I love the idea of electric vessels but if you simply store power without creating new more efficient supplies then this would prove to be a waste of time. My 44 foot camper top cruiser which is powered by an all veggie oil generator and encorporates new tractive drives that are capable of creating the equivalency of 128 MPG and can operate virtually without service due to cooling and heat recovery characteristics of the generator.
This boat is certified for fourteen passengers/crew and due to the sealed modular drive units requires no mechanic or steward for commercial usage. We are just now negotiating for drive by wire controls and mimic systems for GPS navigational remote pilot applications. The certified electronics are rated by transport canada for aircraft and grandfather into the transport office for marine vessels.
This purpose driven vessel was designed from the ground up to incorporate the efficiencies found in turbines and DC electric drives while giving the vessel hydrodynamic characteristics that rival hovercraft and performance Jet boats.
And the best part is that it is still road transportable and can be trailered by a five ton truck.
