[Electric Boats] Re: Hi ya

Ben,

It's doable. First, a quick question. What kind of batteries (FLA, AGM, LiFePO4) do you think that you will use? (trust me, it makes a difference).

I'm assuming that you're looking for 15nm at 4kts. At higher speeds, your range will drop considerably. Your 7 ton boat should get a 7kW drive to provide basic safety maneuvering, not blazing performance. So you will need to pick your motor appropriately. Remember that gearing trades speed for torque, the power stays the same. Considering that you're in the Seattle area, I know that tidal currents can be an issue.

If you confirm these assumptions, I can work up some numbers for you.

Fair winds,

I am plotting the removal of my Vetus 3.10 (its been plotting my removal for years!) from my 30 LOD pilot cutter (~7tons). I would LOVE to go sailing for a weekend and not smell like fuel after bleeding the fuel system for the umteenth time.
