[Electric Boats] hello everybody i'm new and i don' anderstand how recharge a discharge 72v 200a

project convert sailcatamaran 47'

Hello everybody i'm thierry i live in french polynésia on my boat , build myself in french canada....

I'm sorry if my english is not correct but i do many effort...

I 'm very interesting for electric drive but, i search many hours but i i don't anderstand how recharge a discharge 72v 200amp for use 24 hours the electric motor.

My question : is it possible to balance the discharge 200amp 72v with an générateur for use electric engine along 24hours?

if yes , how you do? because charger is 5kw max and alternator 150amp 48v maxi ???

thank if you can answer

and whitch regulator or sytheme for recharge batterry with the propuller when the boat go with sailling.

i want transform my sailcatamaran 47' 20000lbs to electric drive but possible to use motor 70hours continus!!! whith generator diesel

I found 12kw motor in 72v pack battery (ME0913 or ME1003)

but for recharge directly for balance 200amp 72v???

thanks and have a good day
thierry
p.S: I send  picture in the websidegroup

Re: [Electric Boats] Re: electricity from heat

you are talking solid state, the current generation. Back before we had transistors we had thermocouples made of dissimilar metal. Not as efficient as the new stuff but basically indestructible. You can run them cherry red.

Hi Kirk,

Maybe you should tell TE tech that. Their design PDF shows you how to
stack piles and acquire the voltage and amperage you need for your
application.

For that matter you may need to tell my TE generator that it can't work
because you don't understand how it could.

It is bad news to tell people a technology can't work because you don't
understand it.

It does work, admittedly it is pricey, but out of range depends on the
user. Consider people buy LiOn batteries no matter the cost because they
believe it is the best choice. For some it is, But not for all.

For the record. I know of no solid state device that can be driven to
saturation at the voltage produced by one Thermocouple.
A thermocouple is analogous to a batteries single cell, and a pile is
analogous to a battery. Enough thermocouples stacked together and you
can obtain any voltage you want, at a price.

I previously stated my reason for feeling that TE was a good choice. The
price was higher than I first thought it would be, but the price was
worth it to me.

I brought the subject up not as an investigative subject, but rather as
an option for those looking for a solution. After all we all want a
quiet boat. It is one of the major reasons many choose Electric as a
drive option. The choice has little to do with saving money, and more
about a quiet green low carbon foot print. My choice for e-boats was the
diesel fumes below decks make me sea sick.

P.S. Any more discussion on piles would be useless so I won't. TE Tech
has the PDFs to help design a system. They have an engineering staff to
help if needed. I have to many Irons in the fire to help with any design
so it is up to anyone wanting such a system to do the work.

Awesome Skip !

It's ok , I can turn my head sideways 90deg still, probably 3-4 more years.

I think you may have installed it wrong.  Is the boat supposed to be heeled over 90 degrees like that? ;-)

[Electric Boats] First test

We did an initial test with Electric Yacht 260i system on my Moody 34.. My boat weighs 11200 and the motor used very little juice even going against the current. Here is the video:
