Hello, I am trying to buy a system to power my narrowboat on the inland
waterways of the UK.
I have used a 1.8 litre diesel with a 2:1 gear box to drive the boat up to
now and I wish to replace the system with an electric drive and a backup
diesel generator and solar panels.
The info I have gained so far from your Electric Motorsport EV Parts is use
either an Etek EMC-RT and controller or a Sepex motor and controller kit.
Does anyone Know where I can get any of these from in the UK please

Quick update, the starboard battery seems to be completely shot. I took the boat out, and after about 10 minutes, checked the batteries with my volt meter. Three batteries were running at about 5.89 (with the engine at full speed), and the starboard battery was at 1.5. Just one or two minutes later it was down to .79. My boat stopped, and I tried to figure out what to do. I unplugged the crappy battery and ran off of the three good ones, and everything went fine.
Today I'm going to take the "best" battery and get it load tested. If it's good, then I'll just purchase one new battery to replace the shot one. If the "best" battery is iffy, I'll buy all new batteries, but wait to install them until I hear back from some folks about what to do with the load from the controls, running lights, etc.
I'm sure that many of you are banging your heads on your desks because I clearly don't know what I'm doing, but that's why I'm hear -- I really want to learn. I'm sure I'll make some mistakes along the way, but I learn best by doing. Thanks again for taking the time to read this.

I don't know about the first item, but the second item seems right on target. Talk to any prop vendor and they will tell you that typical prop slippage for an inboard driveline in a displacement sailboat is around 50%, put the prop in an aperture and the slippage increases.
And if you think about it, it makes sense. Let's asy that you've got a 10 inch pitch on your prop. This means that it would travel 10" forward for each revolution if cutting through a solid medium. Spin it at 750 RPM and it should theoretically travel 7,500 inches per minute or 625 feet. Do it for an hour, and the theoretical distance is 37,500 feet or 7.1 miles. We all know that a propellor with 10" pitch spinning at 750 rpm (1500 engine rpm with a 2:1 transmission) won't get anywhere near 7.1 mph on our boats. Speed up and the effficiency drops a bit more. You can check this out for yourself, just do the same calcs using the pitch, engine/prop speed and observed boat speed from your boat. I'll guess that you'll be right around that 50-55% mark.

Greetings all
our boat that we are converting to electric power is an Alberg 30. 9000 displacement (until we add our cruising 21'8" water line (when not healed)
Question is regarding the prop.Since we want to stay with a 2 blade (want to keep the amazing light air performance with the prop hidden behind the full-keel) and can go no bigger than a 13" it was recommended that we go to a 13x12 to replace the current 13x7
i would love to know what anyone with a simiular sized boat is using
