A file posted on this group site, "Building a Javelin Electric" in both POWERPOINT and PDF type files is available. This is not really a training course, but it shows the building of a simple, inexpensive, and reliable electric boat, with multi-speed electric wiring diagram, etc.

[Electric Boats] Spincraft Silent 1 for sale
Am thinking of selling my 2006 Spincraft Silent 1. It's the basic model--no fancy woodwork. Same colors, trim, etc., as in picture at http://www.spincraftboats.com/. I bought it new. Have a trailer for it and a guy that will deliver it fairly cheap. I've added a surrey top and another battery--for the bilge pump. There's an OK cockpit cover. The boat's a little big for where we have it--a lake in upstate NY--and we have a smaller homebuilt one we put on the hard when we got this one.

[Electric Boats] New Boat Purchase - Have Questions
I just purchased a 2007 Bayliner 206br. It has 10 hours on it and is in amazing condition. I drive a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander and it can handle towing up to 3500 LBS which is just under the total weight of boat+trailer. Any advice?

Mark, it is a separate Kelly meter, it reads directly from the Controller. I have to check if it is a wiring problem or a defective meter. I guess I'll soon be buying the PakTrakr meter for redundancy.
Some updates: I've contacted Mars about the motor temperature and these are excerpts from their prompt response (the belt part is regarding one of my questions):
The ME0709 is a Brush-Type dc motor. It is capable of 100 amps DC continuous, 300 amps for 1 minute. At 72 VDC, you will be getting 7.2 KW input, or about 8.2 hp output. The motor is qualified at 100 amps continuous for 1500 hours of use. The Brush Holder can be changed very easily without dismounting the motor from the application.
Please note that our motors have winding insulation that is rated for 300 degrees F continuous. If you were touching the motor case, and you can hold your hand on it for longer than 3 seconds, it is below 140 F. The motor case temperature can get to 200 F before the windings are close to 300 F. Heat in the windings due to the winding resistance is the major factor in the motor losses. A tight belt may contribute some heat due to friction in the bearings, but you would see the grease from the bearings coming out if this was a problem. We use high-temperature grease in the bearings (180 F).
[the ME0709] has the same insulation rating of 300 F continuous. A temperature of 200 F on the motor case is acceptable. If the motor gets that hot, then I would recommend a guard on over the motor case to prevent a burn from an intermittent touch.
I should highlight that through the whole design and implementation process I was in regular contact with Kelly's tech support and they have been extremely responsive, taking the time to thoroughly discuss options, and revise my wiring diagrams and proposed throttle/reverse controls. This was great as their technical docs are on the "light"side, but I could always count on their response and clarifications.

I contacted the business to find out what the damage looked like and they said they sold the damaged unit, but they would sell a new undamaged unit for the same price. This is a really good price for a quality unit. I have no idea how reliable they (Trans Pacific Distributors) are but I thought I would let people here know what I found. I have no interest in this company just spreading the word :-).

Skip, it is 11,000 lbs. as per manufacturer' Alberto, Over the weekend I finalized the system installation and yesterday we had the first sea trial. The boat is a 1975 Dufour 34, about 14,000#. The system's main components are: Mars ME0709 (Etek RT), Kelly PM72401 controller, QuickCharge multi-battery charger, 72V AGM battery pack, 400A solenoid, and Paktrkr monitor. Gear is 2.4:1 ratio, high-torque synchronous. The system started immediately. The only problem was the AMP meter, which unfortunately did not work. Conditions: wind was somewhat gusty, 10 knots, flat seas. The boat has been in the water for a long time and there are quite a few barnacles on the bottom, and I would guess on the propeller too (unfortunately the Northern Chesapeake is getting murkier and it is very difficult to visually check more than 1 or 2 inches deep). The prop is the same, inefficient two-blade 13x10 that was used with the diesel. First impressions: unbelievably quite. Up to 3.0/3.2 knots it was impossible to tell if the motor was running or not, at 4.0 a low hum, a little louder at 4.5 (the engine compartment is sound insulated and the motor/gear frame is mounted on the old diesel mounts). The difference between motoring with and against the wind was less than ½ knot at around 3.0 knots. We took the boat against the wind up to around 5.5 knots (which it would have been the limit with the diesel, given the hull/propeller condition) and I still had about ¼ of the throttle run left. After a minute or so we lowered the speed to 3.0 knots and I checked the system, the controller was not even warm (it is mounted on a hefty heat sink), the motor was quite hot to the touch. I would have liked to be able to read the amp-meter… Besides the quite ride, the other great surprise was backing into the slip: for the first time I had good control and immediate response. Once on shore power, the battery charger got really hot (more than the motor), to the point that I will relocate it to a better ventilated area. Overall we were extremely happy. Range with the smallish 105Ah bank will be the next item to determine, but I expect it to serve us well for the kind of sailing we do. For those using the ME0709, how hot does it normally get?
